Today I broke with the feminine tone that has heretofore been the theme of Christmas in August and bought my dad a book. Not just any book, mind you; a hot-off-the-press GOLF BOOK written by my NEIGHBOR, Roland Minton, and published by the estimable Johns Hopkins University Press! It's called Golf By the Numbers: How Stats, Math, and Physics Affect Your Game, and it delves into things that serious golfers obsess about (things about which I am unable to speak intelligently) and provides a host of mathematical data to explain why great golfers are great. I'll use my influence in the hood to get this baby signed by the author and will be poised to wow my dad on Christmas Day.
I'm not worried about his finding out about this, because: A) he has yet to read my blog; B) he so very old and senile that he would not be able to remember having learned about this by Christmas Day; and C) I already asked him on the phone if he was smart enough to enjoy a book of this cerebral magnitude and he said, "I want that book!" as though he is brilliant or something. :)
TALLY: 1 more down today; 10 down in all!
